The Petronas Towers were conceived as part of Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC), a development aimed at creating a modern business district in the heart of the Malaysian capital.
Planning for the project began in 1992, construction started in 1993, and the towers were completed in 1996 before being officially opened on 31 August 1999,
From 1998 to 2004, the Petronas Towers held the title of the world’s tallest buildings.
While they were later surpassed by Taipei 101, they remain the tallest twin towers in the world today.
