East of Torquay lies Babbacombe Beach which is a peaceful arc of shingle beach.
In the background you can see Oddicombe beach that you can walk to via a coastal path.

We take the sea salt splashed walk over to Oddicombe beach under bright blue skies and when we get there we find an unusual method of transport waiting for us.

Built in 1926, the Babbacombe Cliff Railway has shuttled hundreds of thousands of holiday makers to and from Oddicombe Beach in over 90 years of service.
It’s an easy way for locals and visitors to descend to the beach in style.
Work started in December 1924 and the Babbacombe Cliff Railway was completed in 1926 at a cost of £15,648.
