Up bright and early we’re off to the well known Agios Stefanos Beach, stopping to admire some traditional church architecture in Kos town first though. Agios Stefanos Beach is a stunning stretch of postcard perfect sand that has the added attraction of actual ancient ruins at the water’s edge. Alongside the stunning turquoise waters, theContinue reading “Agios Stefanos Beach”

Cruising around Kos
After finally getting to grips with our stroke of 5 star good luck (including champagne for birthday breakfast!) we head out to explore Kos town. Hopping on the bus from the hotel we alight at the bustling harbour which is also where you’ll find lots of restaurants and bars too. First up it was offContinue reading “Cruising around Kos”
Crazy Kos
Diving straight into our next holiday now *advance warning – we managed four this year.* (I am aware that sounds very middle class and terrible but we do make big sacrifices in order to travel . . . beans on toast for weeks on end anyone?!!) This time we opt for a cheap and cheerfulContinue reading “Crazy Kos”
Cliff top views
One of the best ways to appreciate the stunning views over the caldera and to experience some of the exquisite (and expensive) cave house hotels is to walk the clifftop between Fira and Oia. It will apparently take you three hours to cover the 9 km distance from Fira to Oia. However, we didn’t make it allContinue reading “Cliff top views”
Fabulous Fira
Our first excursion of the holiday is to the gorgeous capital of the island – Fira. A jumble of white houses tumbling down the cliff face to the azure sea. Firá derives its name from an alternative pronunciation of “Thíra”, the ancient name of the island itself. The city of white-washed houses is built on theContinue reading “Fabulous Fira”
Santorini, black sand and weddings
Ticking destinations off my bucket list right, left and centre this year with a fantastic week in the glorious Greek island of Santorini just completed! It was a truly family affair as we were all there for the wedding of my younger cousin who chose the clifftop overlooking the caldera for her nuptials. We decidedContinue reading “Santorini, black sand and weddings”
Random Rhodes
Here’s a few more snaps from around Rhodes town. Ornate tiles on the old town fountain and a trip to the beach is in order. I love the diving platform poking up from the sea. The pebble beach is lapped by azure waters. The man is dwarfed by one of the large ferry boats thatContinue reading “Random Rhodes”
Panormitis monastery
While touring around Symi you will see many churches devoted to the Archangel Michael. The decorative Greek Orthodox Monastery of Taxiarchis Mihail Panormitis is the most important on the island. The monastery is a large 18th-century Venetian styled building with the highest baroque bell tower in the world. It’s covered in ornate red, yellow and blue detailing,Continue reading “Panormitis monastery”
Sweet little Symi
During our brief jaunt to Rhodes town we took a ferry over to the glorious little island of Symi. Here’s the first views of the colourful little houses clinging to the hillside. As the ferry pulls into Yialos (the main harbour) we get a closer look at the tiers of housing. Mostly in pastel shades butContinue reading “Sweet little Symi”
Rhodes town
Now dear readers, you all know that we don’t usually do package holidays and yet that is what we found ourselves on in Rhodes. However, never fear, we still managed to break away and do our own thing for a few days. Although we were based in Pefkos we decided to spend a few daysContinue reading “Rhodes town”
