Benidorm
It wouldn’t be a visit to the Costa Blanca without at least one trip to the capital of mass tourism that is Benidorm! In 1993 Benidorm town hall officially commemorated the first hundred years of tourism in the town. So although the town is synonymous these days with cheap (some might say tacky) package holidaysContinue reading “Benidorm”
Elegant Elche
We make a brief stop in the pretty town of Elche. Famous for its huge palm grove and extensive gardens. The municipal park was the first public garden created in the city in 1946. One of the most interesting buildings in the municipal park is the old visitors centre – in a pseudo-oriental style andContinue reading “Elegant Elche”
Views from a train
We’re heading back from Murcia by train towards Alicante, and we’ll stop off at Elche briefly. But the scenery from the train is pretty incredible. Brooding hills frame endless swathes of agricultural plans. While this little town reminds me of every Mexican frontier town I have ever seen in films.
Marvellous Murcia
Murcia is the seventh largest city in the country and an easy trip to make from Alicante by train. It is located on the Segura River, in the southeast of the Iberian Peninsula and has plenty of swoon worthy architecture to ogle. Highlights for visitors include the Cathedral of Murcia and a number of baroqueContinue reading “Marvellous Murcia”
Alicante details
Before I actually visited I was of the dismissive opinion that Alicante was just another highrise, non descript Spanish city that tourists passed through to get to the Costas. But as per usual I was wrong! It’s a bustling, working city for sure but it is more than that. Theres a lovely beach, very reasonablyContinue reading “Alicante details”

It’s home to one of the largest medieval fortresses in Spain and you can get far reaching views across the city and out to the bay of Alicante. There areContinue reading “Santa Bárbara Castle”

We stayed in the perfectly located My Flats Luxury Downtown. Just a few minutes walk to the beach and all the city attractions. ItContinue reading “Alicante”

We’ve spotted something intriguing / adrenalin pumping – a chance to do some ziplining across the River Tagus! So we’re harnessed up by Fly Toledo and head off for a quick zip! Located in the heart of Toledo Old Town, near by San Martin Bridge. It’s a few minutes of breath taking speed in aContinue reading “Zipping along!”
Top of Toledo
Toledo was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986 for its extensive monumental and cultural heritage – and it’s not hard to see why! The cathedral of Toledo is one of the three 13th-century High Gothic cathedrals in Spain. Construction begun in 1226 under the rule of Ferdinand III and the last GothicContinue reading “Top of Toledo”
